The beauty looks at SA Fashion Week AW19, created in partnership with WBeauty, straddled the line between understated and statement

1. THE TREND: LACQUERED-UP EYES AND LIPS
High-shine gloss on lips and eyes was the look du jour at the BRICS show. A rich contrast of glossy berry lips and golden glossy eyes made makeup look super-refined and luxuriously emollient.
"There is no way to stop gloss from creasing in the eye, but if you tap the gloss into the lid until it looks really sheer and melted in, there's a better chance that it will not move," says makeup artist Lesley Whitby.
2. THE TREND: FLUSHED FILTER
Super-flushed, dewy skin was the name of the game at the Woolworths Style by SA show.
Pink blush was worked into the apples of the cheeks, eyelids and lips to create a youthful, fresh complexion complemented by exaggerated bone-straight hair with blunt-cut edges on some models.
3. THE TREND: TOTAL WHITEWASH
At Amanda Laird Cherry, models were given an ethereal look that felt a little alien-like with white pigment washed into the brows and lashes in graphic sweeps and accented with white ballerina-esqué headbands.
4. THE TREND: RETRO CLASH
The shows of Erre and Rubicon left us a little nostalgic as the hair looks showed a mix of retro '50s elegance with futuristic interpretations.
At Rubicon, models strutted out with hair coiffed in retro waves cascading down one side of the head to complement floor-length dresses.
Part faux-hawk, part turban tie, hair at Erre was all slicked back except for the mid-sections, which were intertwined with black cloth to form a voluminous braid.
5. THE TREND: RED SHADOW VISION
The Black Coffee show gave us flashbacks of the Chanel SS16 runway show - in the best way - with red pigment washed across the eyes, forehead and brows in a futuristic, goggle-like formulation.
6. THE TREND: COBALT BLUE GRAPHIC EYE
The graphic blue eye isn't going away anytime soon and we aren't complaining.
At the L'Mad Guillotine show, models were sent out looking fresh-faced with just a thick smear of cobalt blue pigment hugging the crease of the eyes...
