1. MAMI WATA

Sal Masekela, above, may be known as the son of iconic South African saxophonist Hugh Masekela, but in the world of fashion he's set to become a big name in luxury swimwear. Local brand Mami Wata turned heads at Moncler with a collaboration that started this year.

Typically taking a humorous approach to prints, the Cape Town-based swimwear brand is littered with quirky surfing zebras, hyenas and ostriches. The brand also focuses on "Afrosurfonomics" — their approach to ensuring they create opportunities in the country to help grow the budding surf culture on our shores.

2. GRANADILLA SWIMWEAR

Joshua Meltz and Adam Duxbury are the duo behind the swimwear brand Granadilla Swimwear, which honours Cape Town's summers and the local ice-lolly sellers known for the label's eponymous flavour.

The latter inspired the quirky trunk design, but that isn't where their patriotic approach to fashion ends. All Granadilla Swimwear products are proudly manufactured in South Africa in their effort to empower and uplift young South Africans.

3. BREAZIES

Not content to only create the perfect swimming kit for men, Breazies also looks to slip their wearer into a holiday mood. Founded in 2016, Breazies focuses on immaculate finishing and eye-catching prints.

The brand sources all its fabrics and materials locally, utilising the Durban textile industry. Committed to a slow-fashion focus on production, Breazies features a new collection annually. The name of the brand was coined by founder James Greene as a means to inspire the mood of each product they create.
