Something Good is a roadhouse (complete with diners' parking lot) at Port Elizabeth's Pollok Beach that over the years was a beacon of flourescent light and a much sought-after place to eat if you had the munchies late at night.

And if you pulled up, wound down your car window and placed your order, you’d soon be rewarded with a massive, juicy burger with chunky onion slices. That was back in the day and sadly the old roadhouse eventually fell into disrepair and was abandoned.

That was until several years ago when, much to the delight of locals who remembered its heyday, it underwent a radical transformation and expansion that not only reintroduced the traditional roadhouse element, but also spacious open-air decks, a children's play area, an indoor restaurant and a sharp-looking, well-stocked pub – a bonus for thirsty beachgoers.

While Something Good in Marine Drive has a reputation for its speciality burgers, breakfasts, pizzas and other hearty fare, the added dimension of having a pub, or being able to enjoy your favourite beer on its tented decks while checking out the view, gives it an edge.

And there's great refreshment to choose from. The beer taps lining the neat bar counter include Castle Lager, Hansa Pilsner, Castle Lite, Black Label, and craft beers from Jack Black, Boston and CBC.

There is a wide selection of wines, cocktails and spirits, and you're spoilt for choice when it comes to food. It could take you quite a while to make up your mind, so ensure you have something good to sip on while you pore over the menu. Call 041-583-6986.
