Traditionally pizza should be baked on the floor of a wood-fired oven at 485°C. Don't have a pizza oven at home? These hacks that'll help you get the same crisp-based effect in your domestic oven:

  • Pre-heat a pizza stone on the top shelf of an oven at its highest setting, before placing the pizza on the stone for baking.
  • No pizza stone? Try an upturned metal baking tray, preheating in the same way as the pizza stone.
  • Alternatively, take your cue from chef Gordon Ramsay and preheat a non-stick frying pan on top of the stove till very hot. Place the raw pizza in the pan for 3 minutes to brown the base and then pop it into the oven on the highest setting to complete the cooking.
