When was the last time you took a trip to Pretoria? If you haven’t lately, you’ll want to top up your petrol tank (or your Gautrain card) and book an evening to take a trip out to the Jacaranda City.

The food and drinks scene in Pretoria is booming, and with so many cool bars and restaurants popping up all the time, we’ve put together three of our not-to-be-missed Pretoria watering holes:

1. SUMMIT GRILL & SKYBAR WOODHILL, MORELETA PARK

There are few places in South Africa as cool as Summit Grill & Skybar

With an unforgettable view overlooking the city, and an infinity pool that’s often filled with cool inflatable swans, Summit is an Instagrammer’s dream, topped off with chic and delicious cocktails of every size, colour and flavour.

Think upmarket cocktail lounge with the ambience, feel and beauty of a fine dining restaurant, which all come together to make Summit the perfect place to book your next event, special occasion or Friday night out.

Keep your eye on their Facebook page for news of the events also hosted there.

2. LUCKY RODRIGO, LYNNWOOD

If your regular Joburg hangouts include the likes of Brian Lara Rum Eatery and The Royale, then Lucky Rodrigo should be right up your street.

Expect loads of greenery, lots of character and incredible food options, from all-day breakfasts to various burger options and even desserts, all packaged in a unique mixture of Afrikaans rocker decor and American diner vibes.

Whether you’re popping in for a burger and beer, or making the trip just to soak up some of the coolness, a night at Lucky Rodrigo is always guaranteed to be good.

3. BARARCAS, GROENKLOOF

As one of the oldest pubs in Pretoria, Baracas wine and beer bar oozes history and character.

There’s a reason this watering hole has stood the test of time – the beers and burgers are great and there’s a screen nearby to make sure that you never miss out on the sports.

With an extensive selection of craft beers and great wines, you’ll be spoilt for choice, and the weather is great, you can sit relax with your friends and enjoy the live music events outdoors.
