With salt or with sugar? For the longest time, that has been the question where avocados is concerned. In a video shared by Food Insider's Twitter account, a New York restaurant threw a spanner in the works by giving patrons more avocado delights to choose from.

Avocado Appétit's menu boasts a variety of dishes with the same basic ingredient - avocado. And one dish that stands head and shoulders above the rest is avocado fries, served with spicy Japanese mayo.

Co-founder James Mai says: "I came up with the batter personally. We coat it really light, so you can still taste the avocados. When you bite into it, you sort of taste a smush and then the taste of avocado rather than the batter."

Avocado-only restaurants are fast gaining popularity in the US as Avocado Appétit joins Avocaderia in Brooklyn in offering this specialty menu.

On social media, the salt vs sugar debate continues, with the odds firmly stacked in favour of the avo and salt combo.
