It was 20 years ago when Danver Windvogel and Denver Adonis opened Huguenot Fine Chocolates in the main street in Franschhoek. Today the Belgium-qualified duo are SA's premier BEE producers of fine hand-crafted Belgian chocolates.
They've recently come up with the idea of using fresh locally-sourced fruit to flavour the fillings of their range of dark, milk and white chocolate. Think strawberry, pineapple, plums, mango, citrus and a wide variety of berries including beautiful Franschhoek blueberries.
"We've been working on developing the fruit fillings for a couple of months," said Windvogel. "We live in a valley of amazing fruit and fresh produce so decided to experiment."
Using imported Belgian Callebaut chocolate to make the range, Windvogel says you can taste the flavour difference immediately. Some of the most popular have been the green apple, strawberry and plum which is mixed with black pepper.
With Easter upon us, the chocolatiers have been working flat out to fill their shop with deliciousness, including their new range of fresh fruity chocolates...
