Three South African designers are adding a dash of local flavour to an international car company's campaign.

Volvo has roped in the creative talents of David Tlale, Nkhensani Nkosi and Gert-Johan Coetzee to spruce up the interior and exterior of three of its models as part of a campaign fusing motoring and fashion.

The designers are, respectively, redesigning the look of the S60, C30 and XC60 for a big reveal in 10 days' time.

Said Tlale: "I got a Volvo S60 to drive around and to design accessories, which are super amazing."

He was pleased that he got to "pimp" his ride in the process.

Nkosi said she found the campaign fun - and challenging.

"It was different to what we do in some respect. I think the part I enjoyed the most was re-designing the exterior."

Said Coetzee: "I think for me a challenge was making sure that the car appeals to the market that Volvo already has and also bring in a more fashionista type of market."

Beyond the cars, the three have also been tasked with designing a couture item - not just clothing - inspired by the car. These, along with their pimped cars, will be revealed in Johannesburg on August 18.
