Shaped out of a metal so sleek it could be mistaken for silk, Mema Designs' pleated uKhamba lamps are a result of two years of experimentation and research.
Created by Johannesburg designers Sian Eliot and Ari Geva, who have 50 years of experience between them, the lamps are made from aluminium fabric, an industrial material more commonly used for filters and in the automotive industry.
"We spent a whole year just working out how to treat the material and achieve the colours we wanted," says Eliot, adding that a bonus of having treated the metal is that it is rust-proof and dust-repellent, making it ideal for chandeliers.
The first lamp was released 18 months ago, and the duo has recently released an additional two shapes to complete the range.
Available in six beautiful, dusty colours, the lamps offer a soft yet striking centre feature to finish off any room...
