Andrea Brand weaves colour therapy into her arty textile designs

This Cape Town-based designer says her new textile collection, Light Matrix, reflects the duality of the world we live in

For Cape Town-based designer Andrea Brand, colour is much more than just a balm for your eyes. As both an artist and a colour therapist, she understands that colour impacts wellbeing, and has set out to create beautiful and balanced environments with her richly-hued textile collections.
Brand's latest range, Light Matrix, reflects the duality of the world we live in, and she describes it as "a transitioning from the old to the new".
All Brand's designs are digitally printed on sustainable fabrics, such as linen and hemp, and can be used for homeware or fashion items. They can also be custom printed onto anything from wood to wallpaper.QUICK Q&A WITH BRAND
A trend you follow?
The green trend. I am busy putting together my next collection and it's all inspired by greens in nature. I believe the trend will extend into 2018.
Your fave design brand?
Muuto. I find their combination of form and colour a pleasure to the eye.
A piece you'd love to own?
An artwork by Andile Dyalvane of Imiso Ceramics.
Your favourite book?
When I get stuck into a book it's usually in German, as that is my mother tongue. But my latest favourite is The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein. It's an inspiring guide to setting your life up for success through choosing love over fear. I have started working with these affirmations and painting them onto my 2018 collection.
A movie you could watch over and over?
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel; I enjoy Indian movies as they take me back to my time in India...
