The Marabi Club pop-up dining experience is a sensory symphony

Jazz Age nostalgia is on the menu at Joburg's new Marabi Club near the Maboneng Precinct, where live music accompanies the delectable food

Walk through a modest black front door and it's like entering a parallel universe with a dark interior and cool sounds from the jazz band on stage. The Marabi Club at Hallmark House has been created as a glamorous version of a speakeasy of the 1920s, the era when the memorable Marabi musical style was evolving in the then Witwatersrand.
It's filled with heritage pieces; from pressed ceiling panels and vintage book stands to period doors and the Singer sewing-machine bases that hold the basins in the washrooms. The proprietors cleverly launched the venue by bringing Luke Dale-Roberts's award-winning The Pot Luck Club to Marabi as a pop-up restaurant.THE LOWDOWN
