How did you get into furniture design?
After studying Fine Art, I was keen to do something different, something more functional. I started working as an interior designer's assistant. We had to custom-make furniture for a project, so I taught myself design programmes and it was an instant love affair.
How would you describe your work?
My work is modern, architectural line inspired, simplistic and, most of all, functional.Does the fact that you studied art affect your design process?
My background definitely affects my approach and execution. In art school we learnt that everything you create is based on a trial-and-error process. I start by drafting ideas and then manipulate the form into a functional piece.
Which are your favourite materials?
I love to work with steel. If used right it can be moulded into anything. An item you would love to design one day?
A rug collection.
What makes a house a home for you?
The personal items you have gathered over the years. Something from granny or an artwork from a friend. Items you feel attached to add a sense of comfort to a home.
A design tip for our readers?
Never clutter a design or home. Keep it simple.
