7 of my favourite things: interior designer JP de la Chaumette

04 March 2018 - 00:00 By Roberta Thatcher

Jean-Pierre de la Chaumette is passionate about design and surrounds himself with beautiful objects.
As a publicist, JP specialises in communications for décor and design brands, and when it comes to interiors he spends his time creating beautiful homes, offices and spaces, and styling shoots for brands and for magazines.
He shares seven of his favourite things:1. MUSIC
An album I can listen to over and over again is Whose Side Are You On? by Matt Bianco. It's underrated, fun and sassily sophisticated.
2. MAXIMALISM
A design trend that gets me going is maximalism. I have been asking myself: are we not too interesting for pared-down interiors?
3. BENTWOOD ARMCHAIRSA furniture piece I can't live without is my pair of bentwood armchairs by Norwegian designer Oddvin Rykken.
4. BOOKS
Books tend to find me at opportune times in my life; some help, some educate, some inspire, while others offer escape. I most recently found myself weeping over Mark Winkler's novel, The Safest Space You Know.
5. SERIES
A television series I'm loving at the moment is The Crown for the pure joy of its styling.
6. ART
An art exhibition I was inspired by was the Joan Miró show, which I saw in December when I visited the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. The man himself described his work as "mute music", which is just so beautifully appropriate.
7. ANDREW DOMINIC AND LIAM MOONEY
When it comes to design, I am loving Andrew Dominic (the quintessential designer-cum-crafter); and for interiors, Liam Mooney (the king of the mix and maximalism)...
