When a show launches with a bang, as did Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View, last year, it’s always a question about how they’ll keep the momentum going.

But this has clearly not been an issue for the creative team, who have lined up an exciting programme of exhibitors, special projects and interesting features for their second edition, which is taking place from May 25-27.

Here are four highlights to look forward to:

1. CREATIVE COLLABORATIONS

It's great to see shows create an impact beyond the four walls and few days of their event, which is why we're thrilled about the mentorship programme that Design Joburg is introducing this year.

Last year saw the introduction of the collaborative CoLab features, in which established designers were invited to work with interiors brands to create a "room" for the show.

This year the curators are upping the ante by inviting emerging talents to collaborate with some of the more established designers, creating a much-needed platform for mentorship within the industry.

2. ARCHITECT'S GALLERY

One of the central features of this year's show is the new Architect's Gallery.

Curated by architect, designer and artist Shaun Gaylard, the gallery-type exhibit will showcase 3D models and printed materials of some of the most ground-breaking architectural projects in South Africa.

We're looking forward to seeing the work of some of the country's top architectural minds, brought together in one space.

3. RETAIL CORRIDOR

We all like to take home a little of the design magic after a show, which is why we're excited about the new Retail Corridor.

This section of the show will be packed with goods by local decor brands that visitors can grab on the go. Think ceramics, textiles, furniture and more by the likes of creative talents such as Skinny laMinx, Haldane Martin, Avoova, Alexa Lili and Flaunt Concepts.

4.RESTAURANT CURATED BY DAVID HIGGS AND IRENE KYRIACOU

It seems we're in for a culinary treat as well as a design feast at this year's show, thanks to the central restaurant being curated by Marble's David Higgs and interior designer Irene Kyriacou.

Just like in the renowned restaurant, we can look forward to amazing food served in a luxe setting that features the work of local artisans and designers. Expect an on-the-go offering including salads, soups, sandwiches and pastries.
