Cape Town design studio Okha is known for combining conceptual strength with aesthetic sophistication and its furniture and objets make for statement pieces.
When Okha designer Adam Court came across the Verde Magnifico marble he used in his design for the luxury brand, he fell in love with its texture and it sparked the inspiration for his Magnifico coffee and side tables.
Court conceived the tables together - a pair of handcrafted pieces whose varying sizes and weights represent Okha's small artisanal position as well as its global expression. The stone's visible layers also speak to Okha's ethos of embracing the multicultural nature of SA as a place.
"Marble is a metamorphic rock; it forms the backbone of empires and artefacts, and is created when sedimentary limestone is compressed by movement of the earth's crust. Heat and pressure cause the stone's crystals to forge a denser type of stone - marble as we know it," says Court.
The irregular shapes have significance too; a perfect triangle and perfect square cut off at the edges are testament to SA's vast natural geologic surroundings, which inform Okha's design process and choice of materials...
