Bone Interior Design Studio's Hayley Turner and Nicola Orpen have built a business creating layered contemporary spaces for a variety of clients - ranging from residential to retail and restaurants (the duo was responsible for the elegant recent reboot of La Colombe).

Their recent business venture takes their interior prowess a step further and makes designer-level spaces available to a wider variety of homeowners via a furniture procurement and bespoke product design and styling service.

Entitled Marrow (a name they trademarked years ago without knowing what it would entail), this new side of their design firm slots neatly into the first, while serving a different audience.

Seeing a huge gap for a service that offered smartly designed spaces that didn't carry a heavy design fee or the long period of time that comes with developing an interior concept, they realised they could fill a niche while almost removing the "design" stage of the process. '

"We saw that there was a segment of the market spending a lot of money on buying in high-end developments, that didn't want to then spend a fortune on furnishing it on top of that investment," says Turner. Additionally those looking to rent out their spaces are typically looking for a quick turnaround.

The idea developed from there - the concept was to offer developers (and by default homeowners) an easy, seamless design and styling service. At a premium level, but without the costs and time associated with hiring an interior designer.

By offering potential buyers a brochure depicting a full turnkey furnished and styled apartment, at pre-sale stage, it allows the client to better see themselves living in the space and increases on-the-spot sales.

"We wanted to offer a furnishing and decor solution that would match up to the level of property you're buying into," explains Orpen.

So how does this take shape? Through offering a tailored solution to a developer (with options that align with their aesthetic and differentiate it from the next), that prospective buyers can opt for.

A carefully selected and curated scheme (with various permutations in terms of colour and feel) features a stylish selection of local and imported furniture, decorative objets, lighting — the works.

The homeowner need only select their scheme and Marrow will implement it - in a matter of a day or two.

Partnering with Inova Contracts means they also have the benefit of their experience and supplier networks.

"Inova has been doing this for years abroad and with them as partners we're able to offer premium products to local homeowners at really competitive prices," explains Turner. Think Hay, Muuto, Flos ...

The layered option sees owners (or their tenants) able to move in with everything they need, as well as everything that makes a house a home — from linen to decor objets

The beauty of it is that the service comes in tiers too, not only colour palettes - from the base level (essential furniture) to the layered option, which will see owners (or their tenants) able to move in with everything they need, as well as everything that makes a house a home - from the linen to the cutlery and decor objets in place (down to flowers in vases and bubbly in the fridge).

"Eighty percent of renters look for furnished apartments - this presented a huge opportunity for us," says Turner. And it's a win-win for the owners (who will get better prices for their places) as well as renters (who get a stylishly furnished space with all the bells and whistles).
