Michelin-star chef, photographer and all-round creative maven Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen seems to have the midas touch when it comes to his creative projects.

It was inevitable, given Jan's status and ability to put his finger on the pulse of what resonates with an audience in the lifestyle arena, that brands have clamoured to work with him, and his innovative approach is sure to give rise to exciting new ventures across the lifestyle and design spectrum.

This time it's Hertex's inhouse HAUS brand that the chef has partnered with. Together they've created the Jan Collection, a range of tablecloths, tea towels, crockery and cutlery.

Inspired by the cycle of life, the range is meant to evoke an appreciation of life through the artful treatment of death and decay.

The richly toned prints of the table linen evoke the still lifes of Dutch 17th-century paintings; the fabrics are being printed in Europe and stitched locally.

These pieces are complemented by artisanal earthy crockery and simple elemental cutlery. All in all, it's a cleverly conceived collection that works beautifully in tandem.

The Jan Collection range is priced from R280 and also includes scatter cushions. Visit hertexhaus.co.za/jan-collection
