Q. My family and I are travelling on December 26 to New York and we plan to spend New Year's Eve in Times Square. Can you give me advice on where to stay so we can see the ball drop at midnight?

Of all the New Year's Eve celebrations in the world, the "ball drop" in New York's Times Square is quite possibly the most famous. The event now draws one million people who throng the area. Many stake out spots early on the 31st and spend the day there.
Some hotels, such as the Marriott Marquis, The Renaissance Hotel and Doubletree Guest Suites have rooms with views of all the action - expect to pay upwards of $1,000 a night for the privilege - along with New Year's Eve parties.
Another option would be to book a room at one of the nearby hotels offering New Year's Eve packages, which include guest passes through the barricades to one of the pens in Times Square...
