Head to this five-star escape for some seriously blissful spa treatments, writes Lutho Mtongana

STYLE
Modern African-style rooms with earthy tones that demand you slow down physically and emotionally.
I judge a hotel by its bathroom, and the spacious marble en- suite bathroom did not disappoint. I chilled in the bathroom for about an hour doing absolutely nothing bathroom-related.
You can't help but feel comfortable everywhere when you get to the premises.
FACILITIES
The various spa treatments will keep you occupied the entire day if you're not watching birds, hiking, taking a walk around the game reserve or taking a dip in the swimming pool area or the waterfall.
Also take time out to read in their library space, or go wild and book an outdoor massage. You'll love the view of the springbuck and bushbuck staring at you.EXPERIENCE
A word hasn't been invented to describe the energy of Karkloof Safari Spa. Its timelessness is so unique and epic it feels unreal. It's a world of its own.
I don't like exaggerating an experience because no hotel is perfect. Karkloof isn't perfect, but it comes pretty close to perfection. Most of the usual hotel issues are resolved quickly, whether that is bad service or check-in and check-out times. You won't deal with that kind of stress here. Maybe the staff were having a good day when I was there.
The friendliness of the people at Karkloof will make you want to stay for a little longer than expected, and you'll find yourself rescheduling your calendar.THE EATING
Since diet and healthy eating has become such an important factor in our daily lives, do take time to visit Karkloof, if not for the whole-day spa - which will have you feeling new again - then for the organic meals.
I associated healthy eating with bad taste sensations and unfulfilling meals, but Karkloof's weird mixed smoothies and some of its breakfast and dinner options proved me wrong.
Since the meals are all included in the price, why not go wild and have a glass of good red or white wine with every meal?
THE 'DO' LIST
Do have as many spa treatments as possible because I doubt you'll ever find that many on offer in one place anywhere else. It's like a candy shop for massages - and the lovely Thai masseuses know exactly how to make you completely relax your body.
One night is not enough because you'll want to put aside a full day for trying out the numerous spa treatments, which are all done with organic products.BEST TIME TO GO
Any time of the year. On rainy days, though, I imagine that one would miss out on the fun of seeing all the animals - including buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, various antelope species and even giraffe - in the reserve come out to play.
While this is an easy place to chill indoors, the surroundings and activities on offer mean you really want to spend as much time as possible outside.
