LOCATION
The Andros Deluxe Boutique Hotel is situated on the corner of Newlands and Phyllis roads in Claremont, Cape Town. This means that it is really central to all the attractions on this side of the mountain.
STYLE
You would be forgiven for thinking you had been magically teleported to the heart of sophisticated England as you take in the large oak trees, lavender hedges and manicured lawns. The manor house is built in a Cape Dutch style while the garden suites are designed with a country-cottage feel to them.
FACILITIES
As expected, guest rooms and suites feature flat-screen TVs and free wifi. The executive suite has underfloor heating, while the bathroom has heated towel rails. It also has its own entrance and private splash pool.
The Sir Herbert Baker conference room, named after the manor house architect, is kept busy with conferences and weddings and there is a pool, gym and spa.
SERVICE
The service matches the five-star rating of the hotel: they pay attention to detail.
ACTIVITIES
We popped over to the world-famous Kirstenbosch Gardens and climbed Table Mountain via Skeleton Gorge. Newlands Forest is nearby and is popular for hikes. Golfers have three nearby courses to choose from, as well as the Golf Village practice facility.
Mountain bikers can ride the newly opened greenbelt trails from Newlands to Constantia as well as the ever-popular Tokai trails. The less energetic can visit the farms of the Constantia wine route and while away a few hours at lunch.
TIME TO EAT
The buffet breakfast has a selection of hot and cold food to satisfy almost any appetite. The chef offers a fine-dining menu for lunch and dinner.
There is also a selection of complimentary brandies, ports and sherries as well as sweet and biscuit jars, available to guests throughout their stay.
RATES
Fluctuate according to season and demand. From R1,600 per room, based on two people sharing, including breakfast. The executive suite is R4,900 to R6,900.
