Mystery over student activist Vusi Mahlangu's disappearance

Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday that they will only open a missing persons case for student activist Vusi Oldman Mahlangu after 48 hours.

Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said that the incident – in which Mahlangu is believed to have been taken captive in Mthatha - was reported to Madera police on Tuesday.

Fatyela said that individuals who reported the matter were told to return on Wednesday to open a case.

Mahlangu‚ a member of the Black Students Movement (BSM) and spokesperson for #OutsourcingMustFall‚ was last seen leaving a friend's house in Mthatha at around 10am on Tuesday.

In a Twitter post by BSM‚ Mahlangu was said to the heading to a meeting with outsourced workers at Walter Sisulu University‚ but he never arrived.

The last message Mahlangu sent‚ at 4.30pm‚ read: “I am either kidnapped or arrested and I am bleeding …In a dark place at Mthatha‚ my phone is about to die.”
