MK vets wanted military to take them for a ride

The Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) came to the ANC policy conference armed with "bizarre" proposals, only one of which was adopted.
One was that its members should be taken to military hospitals in military vehicles. It was rejected.
The group reworked the proposal, asking that the South African Military Health Services send mobile clinics closer to its members. It was also turned down although Deputy Minister of Defence and MKMVA chairman Kebby Maphatsoe, who led the group's proposals, insisted that it had been accepted.
The ANC has not yet issued a consolidated report on adopted policy proposals.
Maphatsoe said military veterans wanted free use of public transport and 50% discounts on SAA flights...
