Grace Mugabe: A curious case of foot in mouth

19 November 2017 - 00:00 By Staff Reporter

On the beginnings of her relationship with Robert Mugabe, Grace has said: “He came to me and started asking about my family. I looked at him as a father figure. I did not think he would at all look at me and say: ‘I like that girl’. I least expected that”
On her husband: "He took time to groom me into the woman that I am now'"
On being booed at a rally this month:  "So I have said to the president, you can also leave me in charge. You can also give me your position. Give me the job and I will do it very well because I am good. I can do a great job."
Shouting back at hecklers:  "If you have been paid to boo me, boo, go ahead. I don't care, I am powerful."
On shopping:  "It's impossible for one to spend a million dollars in an hour. I don't have time for all these things to pamper myself."
On reports that she poisoned Emmerson Mnangagwa:  "Why would I kill him? I can't prepare one cup of an ice cream to kill Mnangagwa. Who is he? I am the wife of a president!"
On her critics: "I don't even care.  Ignorance is bliss."

And in October, NewsDay reporter Kenneth Nyangani was jailed for causing “criminal nuisance” after he wrote that the first lady donated used underwear to unemployed Zanu-PF supporters...
