Claire Penn: Leader in field of linguistics who understood 'soft' science

Claire Penn, who has died in Johannesburg at the age of 66, was a professor of speech pathology and audiology at the University of Witwatersrand, and a world leader in the field of linguistics, sign language and head injury.
