Gripped with the 'fierce urgency of now' to provide modern mass transport

Not too long ago, the president of the Republic of SA, Cyril Ramaphosa, and I were given a taste of the daily reality of millions of South Africans, while we were on the campaign trail. While interacting with South Africans in the commuter rail environment, we, and hundreds of commuters, were stranded when the Metrorail train on which we were travelling was delayed by three hours.

While the president and I were slightly inconvenienced as a result of the delay, the ripple effect for some of our co-commuters may have been more catastrophic. When your livelihood depends on you arriving safely and timeously at your destination, even a minor setback can have far-reaching consequences...
