In last week’s Sunday Times, Aashiq Johnson, a 16-year-old in grade 11 in the Western Cape, asked a telling question: “How do I learn effectively when my subconscious constantly reminds me of the plight of my South African brothers and sisters who are unable to learn under ‘normal’ conditions, let alone a national lockdown?”
