Every man in SA must accept he is part of the GBV problem

Last weekend, on the eve of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), we woke up to another tragic shock: an Eastern Cape man was arrested for allegedly hacking his wife and five children to death with an axe. The children were aged between six months and 10 years.

The senseless and brutal killing of these precious souls is evidence - and a strong reminder - that something has gone terribly wrong in our society. Abuse and hatred of women and children have become the norm. At the outset, I want to commend the work of the police who arrested the man before he could flee...
