I believe that the cost of reaching out to and engaging people in order to persuade them to be active civic participants in their democracy is money better spent than that spent on persuading them to upgrade perfectly functional cellphones or lust after designer clothes and high-end performance cars, writes Lindiwe Mazibuko.
