A tribute to Max Coleman, a detainee’s best friend

The work of the founder of the Detainees' Parents Support Committee, who died last Sunday, touched thousands of lives during the struggle against apartheid

Any story of detention without mention of Dr Max Coleman would be incomplete. Coleman, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on the night of January 16, aged 95, founded the Detainees' Parents Support Committee (DPSC) after the detention of his son in the early 1980s.
