Many voters are hooked on their abusive rulers

The outcome of South Africa’s election will depend on whether large numbers of black voters can break the psychological barrier of “trauma-bond voting” in which they support the ANC based on a shared past and identity, and overcome their fear of voting for the unknown, writes William Gumede.
