We have celebrated Heritage Day for almost 30 years now. Heritage means those things that define us, individually and collectively, which we inherited from those who preceded us. For some, though, celebrating our heritage has been reduced to a braai, gulping large volumes of liquor or shopping for traditional clothes that they never wear on any ordinary day, entrenching a consumptive behaviour that we shouldn’t be encouraging...
