On November 20, the day a World Movement for Democracy (WMD) (https://www.movedemocracy.org/) conference got under way in Sandton, the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation was grappling with whether to drop out. A statement signed by the chair of the Archbishop Tutu Intellectual Property Trust, Mamphela Ramphele, confirmed lawyers’ advice that participation would “be perceived as support for the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and will therefore be regarded as insensitive to current global geopolitical events, and risk negative impacts to the Archbishop’s reputation”. ..
