Man earned R10m with 'fake' matric
A Limpopo University employee linked to a qualifications scam that netted him millions of rands has been caught by the police. The arrest of the university's labour relations manager, Lesiba Lazarus Lebelo, is one of several linked to fake qualifications.Lebelo, who is the subject of a Hawks investigation, allegedly falsified his matric certificate to secure employment at the university in 1996.Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda said that by doing so Lebelo fraudulently earned more than R10-million in salary payments over 19 years.Lebelo was released on R3000 bail and is to appear in court in November. He was to have retired from the university in a month."Initial investigations have shown that the serial number of the certificate he used belonged to someone else," said Netshiunda.Police are also investigating the legitimacy of Lebelo's other qualifications, including those purporting to be for undergraduate study."This is part of a wider investigation into fraudulent certificates involving not only this man."False certificates are a serious problem, with a number of high-profile people recently found to have had falsified qualifications," the Hawks spokesman said...
