DJ and event curator KayGee The Vibe is set to turn up the heat in his hometown when he hosts Block Party #KaJozi to Mexico, taking place on March 28 at KaJozi in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, KayGee said hosting the event in Tembisa is deeply personal and emotional for him.

“The feeling is something sort of amazing because it’s my hometown, literally where I grew up and five minutes away from my parents’ house. It’s a great feeling to bring people from all parts of the country to where I come from,” he said.

KayGee emphasised this is not an ordinary party, but a fully curated experience.

“This is not a normal party where we put up tents, plug music and expect people to enjoy. We go all out with the theme and ambience. People are tired of the same thing every weekend, so themed parties are more exciting. The experience shows value for money. There will be live performances, games and Mexican vibes throughout.”

He believes the growing popularity of Block Party events is driven by partygoers wanting something fresh. “People want to experience different ways of having fun. They want themed parties and more effort from promoters and event organisers,” he said.

Reflecting on his previous block party, KayGee said this one feels like a fresh start. “My last block party was stopped by Covid so I can’t really compare. That was a while back, so I’m treating this one as a new baby in my catalogue of events.”

He promised nothing short of excellence for those attending.

“I’m going all out to create a top-notch experience for everyone who bought tickets and will be attending.”

What excites him most is the support he’s receiving from his fans.

“This is my first time doing this event [in Thembisa] and what excites me is how my fans and supporters are engaging with me and helping to create the best outcome. I’m excited because I’m not alone on this journey of creating a masterpiece event.”

KayGee also highlighted the cultural importance of hosting such events. “It’s important because we keep the culture alive and we show our neighbouring countries that we take pride in our events and our artistic gifts.”

Despite being known for his energy behind the decks, KayGee describes himself as shy. “I don’t talk a lot. I’m actually a shy person, so I don’t touch the mic much but I’ll definitely be on the decks,” he laughed.

He added that hosting Block Party #KaJozi to Mexico is a major milestone in his career.

“It’s a very big move for my career and it contributes a lot to my confidence as an artist.”

When asked why people should attend, KayGee kept it simple: “Because it’s an experience of a lifetime — one you really can’t miss.”
