The R1-million hip-hop musician JR won on the third season of Tropika Island of Treasure will go towards paying off his house and his girl-magnets - his cars.

The Show Dem rapper beat 13 other contestants, including six celebrities such as Live and YFM presenter Bonang Matheba, Khanyi Mbau, comic Loyiso Gola and former Miss SA Tatum Keshwar in the reality TV competition, which took place in Phuket, Thailand.

The contestants took part in various activities throughout the season, including racing on tuk-tuk motorbikes.

In another task, they wore chicken suits and had to make their way through town on a treasure hunt to locate three gold Tropika bottles before crossing the winning line.

"R1-million is not a lot of money in the great scheme of things" said JR yesterday.

"But for me it's very serious, I've got things to do. I've cars and a house to pay for. I'm also giving the three ladies [who made it to the top four] R50 000 each."

He beat his three female rivals Thandeka Steenkamp, Dionne Song and Latoya Ragebult.

The competition was launched on August 1 and by December JR had already won the dosh but TV being TV, the winner couldn't be revealed until the show's finale on e.tv on Sunday.

"It feels good to finally have it done and I don't have to keep it [winning] a secret anymore," he said. "All this happened a while ago and I'm a guy that talks a lot so it was hard to keep quiet."

And, unlike in the two previous seasons, after which the final two contestants shared the R1-million, he gets to keep it all for himself.

The second season was won by Shashi Naidoo and her partner, Cuan Bergman.

Actress Pam Andrews and Owen Madondo shared the prize money in the first season.

JR will release his third and as yet untitled album, a follow-up to ColourFull in September.
