HOLLYWOOD starlet Sienna Miller and disgraced British tabloid editor Rebekah Brooks were among the celebrities who slipped into Cape Town to soak up the sunshine over the festive season.

Miller and her new beau, actor Tom Sturridge, steamed up a local restaurant between bites of prawn spaghetti and tomato soup on Thursday.

Sturridge starred in The Boat that Rocked opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman and is mates with Twilight heart-throb Robert Pattinson.

The couple slipped into the country for a seaside holiday, hot on the heels of Brooks and her racehorse trainer husband Charlie. According to the Daily Mail, the couple heralded the New Year with friends in the city.

Brooks and Charlie reportedly stayed at the Mount Nelson Hotel, a stone's throw from Societi Bistro in Orange Street, where Miller and Sturridge were spotted enjoying a candle-lit dinner.

"Sienna was friendly and shy," staff told the Sunday Times. British tabloids yesterday reported that Miller was pregnant with Sturridge's child.

A meeting between the two famous women may have ended in a barbed exchange.

Brooks and Miller were pitted at polar ends of the News of the World phone-hacking scandal that erupted in the UK last year.

Brooks edited the News of the World from 2000 to 2003, when the phones of celebrities were tapped. She resigned as chief executive of News International under a cloud and was arrested in July. She has denied committing any criminal offence and will return to court for questioning in March.

Meanwhile, it transpired that Miller - who became tabloid fodder after her ex-fiancé, actor Jude Law, cheated on her with their nanny - was one of a string of celebrities whose phones were hacked by the tabloid's staff.

A UK court last year awarded Miller more than R1-million in damages after the News of the World admitted to intercepting her phone.

The Daily Mail reported on Friday that Brooks - whose former personal assistant was arrested on the same day in the hacking scandal - and Charlie shopped at Cape Town craft markets and frolicked with penguins at Boulders Beach.
