Cake Boss, one of the most popular series in South Africa, is shot in Hoboken, New Jersey, and centres on Carlo's Bake Shop, where Valastro and his staff bake and decorate extravagant cakes for fans from all over the world who line up for blocks to place their orders.

Valastro said last week that he was looking forward to visiting South Africa and seeing the many beautiful things he's heard about.

"Unfortunately, I'm only going for a day or two, which kind of stinks because I have to do another filming that weekend somewhere else, and there was no way for me to get out of the other thing.

"But when I knew I was going I was so excited about seeing the fans because so many people come from South Africa to the bakery."

He said he hoped that on his next trip he would be able to stay for a week or two, bring his family, and go on safari.

Valastro believes the recipe for his show's success and its international appeal is that "it brings families together".
