'Django Unchained' tops the world box office
According to the Rentrak Corporation, Quentin Tarantino's western has topped the world box office, earning $56.34 million over the weekend ending January 20.
Django Unchained, which was ninth last weekend, rose to the top of the leader board thanks to its release in 54 new countries. The movie starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio has now earned $186.76 million in total.
The horror film Mama, which is in second place, made a good start. This movie by Guillermo del Toro starring Jessica Chastain earned $29.12 million in just seven countries. The movie is just ahead of Les Misérables, which is in third place with $27.21 million.
Life of Pi, which was at the top on the weekend of January 13, is now in fourth place. The film has made $24.1 million.
