Rapper HHP has penned a lengthy response to criticism about his lacklustre hosting skills which were on full display at the South African Music Awards (Samas) over the weekend.

HHP came under fire for failing to keep the crowd and viewers entertained. Instead, the rapper's jokes fell short and people were more bored than impressed with his efforts.

Not discouraged by the feedback he received afterwards, HHP responded on Facebook to the criticism he received.

"I'd like to take this time to share my acceptance speech. Let me sum up SAMA XXI in a quote I absolutely love from Charlie Chaplin. He says "To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!"

"Taking risks, going against the grain or walking into the unknown wilderness is a daunting and scary mission. Yet, doing it and coming out on the other side is a lesson in itself. Fear belongs only to God. As ratchet as last night went, I take away these key things i learnt about MYSELF.

"I need to try my hand in musical theater. I need to take public speaking lessons - I've always been afraid to speak (not rap) in public and last night's delivery about xenophobia made me realise, public speaking comes from the heart. Last thing I learnt about myself is i need to grow a thicker skin and try my luck at stand up...I actually fux with it. Maybe after some serious booes and hackling I'll go pro.

"I loved this whole experience. You'll probably never see me host again, but if I get another call from BETafrica, I look forward to it even the more."
