Tributes pour in for singer Randall Wicomb

Tributes are pouring in for renowned Afrikaans singer and composer Randall Wicomb who died at his home in Stellenbosch on Sunday at the age of 66 after a long battle with prostrate cancer. His death was confirmed by family friend Johan Rademan who was quoted in several reports as saying Wicomb was surrounded by his family when he died during the early hours of Sunday.“With sadness that I must say a friend of mine Randall Wicomb has passed away this morning at 04h45. Being an iconic Afrikaans singer‚ we’re all filled with sadness‚ people are commemorating him‚ WhatsApp messages coming in and Facebook from all over the world‚” Rademan was reported as saying.Fellow Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyer tweeted: “Our hearts are still for Randall and those close to him this morning. Mine is sore‚ old friend. Rest well. Go show them the beauty of Afrikaans up there.”Another celebrity‚ Bobby van Jaarsveld tweeted: “Rest in peace Randall Wicomb. Strength to the family.”“Heart broken to hear about Randall Wicomb. A true legend‚ Thankful for his music. It had a great influence on me. Rest in peace‚” tweeted singer Elvis Blue.Performer Chris Chameleon tweeted: “I remember our small family listening in the 80s to Randall Wicomb’s Adijei Adijou record en route to the Cape in our volksie (VW) .” Dowwe Dolla lamented: “Heaven is receiving a great musical treasure today.
