Canadian music superstar Drake was mobbed by fans as he visited the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton on Monday evening, addressing young children as part of national Youth Month celebrations.

Drake arrived at the centre where Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe and Mandela family members gave him a tour of the centre.

The party guided Drake through the office that Mandela used before leading him up to the auditorium where he gave a short speech to excited fans. A Nelson Mandela shirt was handed over to the musician by Radebe.

Watch Drake dish out some inspirational advice for young people in South Africa on Monday during his visit to the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg. Check out that #View Drizzy has been filming a music video in Mzansi for the last three days.

"I encourage you to do everything that you can to make the future here as bright as you possibly can. We're all young. We all have some end goal or some dream."

It's understood that Drake requested the tour as he wanted to learn more about Nelson Mandela and his legacy. He had hoped to lead a short discussion with the youth but both time and the over-attendance made this impossible.

TMG Entertainment further understands that he was due to visit Winnie Mandela after the visit to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Drake jetted into the country on Friday and had been shooting a music video in Soweto for most of the weekend.

He will be leaving on Tuesday afternoon.
