To celebrate the brave men and women who are prepared to risk their lives and limbs – all in the interest of achieving 15 seconds of fleeting fame on the internet, Ridiculousness Africa puts a local spin on the Rob Dyrdek-fronted US comedy clip show.
The African adaptation of the sidesplitting show, set to premiere tonight on MTV, sees Thomas Gumede, Boity Thulo and Nigerian comedian Basketmouth taking the hot spot as hosts of the show.
Speaking to TMG Entertainment at the Ridiculousness Africa Launch on Wednesday evening, Boity let us in on her experience with the show, claiming that it has been a thrilling ride.
"The experience of filming Ridiculousness Africa has been completely amazing," she revealed.
"It's laughter, it's light-hearted, it's just a bunch of friends sitting together and having a great laugh while watching other people do stupid things."
In the US version, the show - which features bizarre video clips of crazy antics, shocking stunts and eccentric exploits from some of the internet’s craziest clowns - is hosted by Chanel West Coast, Rob Dyrdek and Steelo Brim. The TV personality explained what makes the local spin-off different to the original concept.
"What makes it different is the fact that we add an African experience and opinion to the videos that we watch.
''Although the content is very much alike to the American version of the show, I think the difference that we bring in is our own flavour, and our experience of what we understand of what people are doing in those videos," she explained.
To further emphasise her point, she made an example of how her grandmother would react if she were to record a crazy antic, such as setting her house alight.
"If my grandma even caught me thinking of doing that involves fire, I would get killed," she jokingly added.
The first season of Ridiculousness Africa was shot on location in Madrid, Spain. While that was just one perk of being a host, Boity revealed that it has been quite an easy and fun job, playfully adding that she practically gets paid for doing "absolutely nothing."
''I agreed to doing the show, because I know the show, I understand the show and I've watched it plenty of times - it's fantastic. So why wouldn't I want to be a part of it?
''It is fun, light-hearted and easy. Who would say no to doing Ridiculousness? No one," she said.
Ridiculousness Africa premieres on MTV (DStv channel 130) tonight at 21:15 CAT, where Nasty C will be joining the hosts as the first guest, sharing his hilarious comments and observations on the video antics.
