It's no secret that getting a mortgage approved (or even getting an apartment to rent) can be a hit and miss business for freelancers whose income may well fluctuate month to month. And according to freelance actress Masasa Mbangeni, this is "the most humiliating and painful experience ever".

Masasa took to Instagram to share details about financial challenges faced by freelancers in the industry.

She particularly addressed the difficulties of trying to look for an apartment, to buy or rent, claiming that getting finance is a "painful experience".

"Being a freelance actor and looking for an apartment , to buy or to rent , has to be the most humiliating and painful experience ever," she wrote.

"And then we have to explain to people that we are not lazy or making excuses, that buying anything as a freelancer is rough! They want your blood and tears or you pay cash and how many people have enough money to buy a (minimum) 1,3mil home cash ? But we soldier on because this is the Artist's Way."

More recently, Scandal! actor Kagiso Modupe revealed that he will be doing a weekly video clip, entitled The Real Facts About the Industry, in which he plans to debunk all myths fans have about celebrities.

"Have you ever bumped into your favourite celebrity and they were in a taxi, or bus, or any form of public transport. The first reaction is to say 'hayi wena hamba taxi'. The reality is that we are contract workers and banks don't like to give us loans, so we have to hustle more to buy things cash," he said.
