I was afraid to say my mother had HIV, says Vusi Nova
Following the recent release of his heartbreak album, Naninina, depicting a tumultuous period in his life, Vusi Nova has opened up about being ashamed to reveal the cause of her mother's death.
Speaking to DRUM, the singer revealed that Naninina helped him to not only face, but heal from all the pain he's suffered in the past, such as losing his parents and turning to drugs as a result.
He said that after his mother passed, he would often not divulge the fact that she died of HIV, saying that he was very afraid.
"At some point I used to lie to people and say my mother died of cancer because I was afraid to say my mother had HIV," he told the local publication.

Vusi, who has repeatedly opened up about his past drug addiction, explained in a recent interview with Gareth Cliff on Cliffcentral that he used to take cocaine throughout the day and Mandrax in the evenings to "bring [him] down," which he said set him back hundreds of thousands.
"[I took] coke literally throughout the day. I would go and buy the stuff for like 10 grand, and just sit and smoke. And obviously in the evening, now I can't sleep, so I have to go back to the Mandrax [to bring me down]."
