Local stars pay tribute to Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy

Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy died on Tuesday at the age of 42, according to international reports. 

The musician was on tour in Las Vegas at the time of his death. His publicist told TMZ that Prodigy was hospitalised "a few days ago for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis".

The illness has been known to result in blocked blood vessels. 

The exact cause of death has not been determined.

Tributes from around the world flooded social media on Tuesday evening as news of Progidy's death emerged. 

South African celebrities including Tbo Touch and DJ Capital posted moving tributes to the star and recounted moments shared with him.
