Bonang to share the magic of Madiba at London Mandela Centenary dinner

Bonang Matheba will be representing Mzansi this week when she jets off to London to host a centenary celebration dinner for Tata Madiba.

When we caught up with the star this week she told us she couldn't fit us in her bags so she won't be able to take us with to the The Global Gift Nelson Mandela Centenary Dinner on Tuesday, but she would do us proud by preaching the legacy of both Nelson and Ma Winnie Mandela.

Spill the tea, sis. How did you get the golden ticket to host such a larnie event?

"I was a special guest of the foundation's gala dinner in London last year where Eva Longoria was chair. I guess I made an impact because I was approached this year to host their event."

B! It's a dinner, what's on the menu? and can you bring takeaways for us in a doggy bag?

"Lol! I am not sure what they have prepared for us but it would be cool if they had traditional South African dishes. Either way, I'm sure people will enjoy it."

Oh la la, do you have a date?

"Well, I am going alone because some of my family members weren't able to get the right documentation in time but Vanessa Williams, Pamela Anderson and Beverley Knight will be there so there's that..."

 So, B what's your game plan? What are you going to be telling them exactly?

"I'll tell them about the impact they have had on my life as a South African. The impact they have had on my life has been enormous. Because of them, I am able to travel the world and speak freely. I am able to take up such opportunities. I am just a young black girl from Mafikeng that is now able to share with the world what Madiba did for me and countless others like me."

We know you've been in and out of the country since Ma Winnie died but have you seen the debate about Ma's legacy?

"It is unfortunate that people were questioning her legacy and I guess that is part of the reason why, as South Africans, we need to educate the world about Ma Winne. I am not ashamed of her and I'll be sharing the stories about her life and legacy at the dinner. I am blessed to have that opportunity."

We saw that you even wore a doek for mama, will you be doing the same at the dinner? Flex on them, gurl! Show them.

"It was such an amazing initiative and one I was thrilled to take part in. I will be taking a lot of local and African designers so perhaps I will wear a doek. The outfits haven't been finalised yet but I would like that."
