David Tlale has worked with models of all shapes and sizes, but when it came time to release his Spring/Summer 17-18 collection, it was his mother who became a feature star.

In an article in Drum magazine, David said he wanted to bring his product to real people and the best way to do that was through his mom, Joyce.

In the article, David said their family always used to dress up for church, but his mom was so busy focussing on everyone else, that she forget about herself.

"The collection brought my mom and me closer to the general public and dispelled the impression that 'this one never smiles.'"

The theme is 'Let's Play Dress Up' and we can't wait to see the final results.

The designer is working on another season of his show, The Intern.

Although the first season was a hit with viewers, it was the spat after the show ended between David and the winner, Kuena Moshoeshoe, that grabbed headlines.

She claimed she had not received any of her prizes while David said it was only revealed later that she did not have a South African work permit.

Meanwhile, it's all eyes on David to see what his new collection will bring. And to take a young throwback, here's just some examples of David in all his glory.
