Actor Morgan Freeman has released a second statement in response to claims that he sexually harassed women and acted inappropriately during interviews.

The 80 year old actor said that he was devastated that his life's work was being put at risk of being undermined because of the claims.

"All victims of assault and harassment deserve to be heard. And we need to listen to them. But it is not right to equate horrific incidents of sexual assault with misplaced compliments or humor."

He apologised for his part in making jokes and said it was meant to be light-hearted and humorous.

"I admit that I am someone who feels a need to try to make women—and men—feel appreciated and at ease around me. As part of that, I would often try to joke with and compliment women, in what I thought was a light-hearted and humorous way. Clearly I was not always coming across the way I intended. And that is why I apologized Thursday and will continue to apologize to anyone I might have upset, however unintentionally."

Morgan, however, said it needs to be clear that he did not assault anyone and did not offer work in exchange for sex.

CNN first ran the story where 16 people have claimed that the actor made sexual advances and said he acted inappropriately.

One of the people to come forward is CNN entertainment journalist, Chloe Melas. She said she was subjected to inappropriate behaviour while she interviewed the star at a press junket for his film, Going in Style.

A campaign with Visa, in which the actor features, has since been put on hold since the allegations emerged.
