Shimza believes that the success of local acts at Ibiza shows that the party island is quickly warming to the South African sound.

The Akulalwa hitmaker is the third South African DJ to score a residency in the last year, after Black Coffee and Culoe De Song both scored gigs at massive clubs in the area.

Shimza will perform at Privilege night club every Thursday from June 7 until October, and told TshisaLIVE that it was the next step in becoming Mr Worldwide.

"I was approached by the brand that’s hosting the night SuperMartXé after I did a gig with them in Madrid. This residency means a lot for my career. Most of the international bookers look at what goes on on the island to decide on their festival line ups, this will help boost my international career," he said.

But how will Shimza bowl them over?

Shimza won't change his sound, he said that he will adapt his playlists to fit in with what all the cool kids in Ibiza are listening to.

"The sound has to change towards what they listen to, I have to adapt in some way but also keep the sound I’ve always been playing. Our (South African) sound is unique and they’ve shown interest in it"

Of course, Shimza is no stranger to the island. He has played there before and was even featured by the media there.

He said that this time, the shows will be different.

"It will be different because I’ll be more involved in the production of the Thursday shows, being a resident DJ on that island means you will be building an international fan base that you will be meeting on the island."

Although Shimza was shy to spill the tea on whether he is going to drop any new international collabs or new tracks during his residency, he said local fans can look forward to a planned collab with HHP.

The collab was born when he heard this freestyle.

"It will happen soon, I need to make time for studio with him," he added.
