Steve Hofmeyr is in good spirits but is now on a hectic dose of medicine and exercise after surviving two blood clots passing through his heart and lungs this week.

The singer was admitted to hospital early on Wednesday morning for observation, with doctors confirming that no short term damage was caused and that he was on the road to recovery.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Steve said he was not in pain but probably would not have felt it pass until he was dying.

"The problem is that a person doesn't feel thrombosis until you are dying. I am going for tests and will rest but I will definitely have to go back to gym now and be on pills again for a few months."

His team said they were confident he would be discharged before this weekend and would perform.  Steve said being on stage again was his biggest wish.

"I don't want to cancel any shows," he added.

Fans have been filling social media with messages of support for Steve, and looking for updates on his condition.

Steve joked that fans would know he was dead when he stopped tweeting, he thanked them for their support and said that alongside his wife and children they were his biggest pillar of strength.

Steve was rushed to hospital in 2007 with health issues that he said had him fearing for his life.
